ARAGÓN & CATALUNYA, the lands of the Ebro.
The vast territories extending between the Pyrenees and the Ebro River, combined with the rugged and often overlooked lands along both riverbanks, form the setting for this journey.
The common denominator of both territories consists of the three geographical belts structuring the region from north to south: the Pyrenees, the Pre-Pyrenees, and the Ebro Basin.

The latter is what adds truly distinctive nuances. In ARAGÓN, vast desert-like expanses with endless horizons stretch along the riverbanks.
In CATALUNYA, a intricate landscape of mountain ranges, ravines, and often hidden valleys accompanies the river's course.
At no point do the vineyards monopolize the landscape. They certainly have a stronger presence in highly renowned wine-growing areas, yet they always share the terrain with other crops and natural vegetation. Elsewhere, vines appear in remote, isolated spots on nearly impossible slopes, echoing a time when their presence was a constant and the livelihood of the local people was tied directly to what the land yields through hard work.
Hidden within this vast and changing geography lie the diverse WINE LANDSCAPES of ARAGÓN & CATALUNYA, featuring 11 curated experiences designed to showcase the most representative and compelling aspects of today's winemaking scene in northern Spain.
All that remains is to discover which ones suit you best. Below, we highlight the unique character of each experience to help you choose.

Route and LANDSCAPES 1 • PRIORAT HEROIC
To speak of Priorat is almost synonymous with heroic viticulture. It is best understood this way for the simple reason that we are dealing with a rugged and steep terrain, featuring slopes —costers— frequently described in wine literature as "impossible".
The striking beauty of its terraced hillsides dotted with vines stands in stark contrast to the sheer hardship required to work them under such conditions.
Llicorella —slate— is a word inextricably linked to this region. It defines the main defining component of its soils and, consequently, its wines, serving as a key factor that has elevated them to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Great Wines of the international wine world.
For our legs, these "impossible" slopes mean that the physical effort will also often be Heroic. Even on shorter routes, a demanding ride is guaranteed, which is why the use of e-bikes is strongly recommended.
The Priorat landscape explored in this experience highlights the Grandes Viñas Clasificadas (Grand Classified Vineyards) and other terroirs behind some of the iconic, ultra-premium wines that put the region on the global map and energized its broader economy. Mas de la Rosa, Tossal d'en Bou, Manyetes, Mas d'en Gil, L'Ermita... are place names, revered almost as sacred in the wine world, that will unfold before our eyes along the route.
The photos below offer a glimpse into these legendary sites. In almost every one of them, it becomes clear why we named this journey PRIORAT HEROIC.

The arrival of Carthusian monks in the 12th century and the establishment of the monastery known as La Cartuja de Scala Dei marked the historic moment when the modern Priorat region began to take shape—a territory then governed under the authority of the monastery's prior.
The backdrop of the imposing Sierra del Montsant entirely defines the identity of La Cartuja; it is impossible to escape the influence of such a powerful presence. The mountain's sheer cliffs mesmerize the eye, revealing a deep, telluric energy within the landscape that is hard to ignore.
Dwarfed on the slopes connecting Escaladei to the mountain's vertical rock faces, scattered vineyard plots emerge here and there: authentic historic terroirs, living remnants of a past where, according to surviving records, vine coverage was ten times greater than what we see today.
Just as in so many other parts of old Europe, it was the monks who developed and passed down winemaking knowledge. The Scala Dei Winery stands as a living testament to this legacy. It remained the constant thread when historical upheavals forced the monks to abandon the monastery. And when vine cultivation dangerously declined in the early 20th century, Scala Dei —alongside a handful of local producers— kept the winemaking flame alive through to the present day.
Our journey takes place in the vast natural amphitheater at the foot of the Montsant cliff walls. This is demanding terrain. Some trails are rocky, requiring sturdy bike tires, and if your physical fitness isn't optimal, an e-bike is highly recommended.
Otherwise, a spectacular experience is guaranteed. It is no exaggeration to say that we are standing in one of the most significant wine landscapes in the Iberian Peninsula.

Route and LANDSCAPES 3 • MONTSANT - LA FIGUERA
First of all, it is necessary to clear up the confusion that inevitably overcomes visitors arriving in the Priorat region, as they never lose sight of the northern horizon dominated by the Serra del Montsant.
The distinction between Priorat and Montsant is only real in enological terms. DO Priorat and DO Montsant exist as separate wine appellations, but geographically the Priorat region encompasses both. The horizons remain the same: the aforementioned Serra del Montsant to the north, the Serra de Llaberia and Montalt ranges to the south, and the Serra de Llangossets —home to La Figuera— to the west.
The best analogy to understand this blend of geography and wine is to visualize a fried egg: the yolk inside represents winemaking Priorat with its famous slate soils —licorella—, while the white surrounding it represents Montsant, characterized by predominantly limestone soils and slopes that, at least in certain areas, are gentler and less "impossible" than those of neighboring Priorat.
Translated to our cycling routes, this means longer rides will likely cover miles across both appellations. In fact, you may encounter the almost paradoxical scenario where neighboring vineyards belong to two different designations: one DO Priorat and the other DO Montsant. Naturally, the riding style, route elevation profile, and difficulty remain very similar across both areas.
This route option, which we call LA FIGUERA, traverses the upper ridgeline of the Serra de Llangossets, creating a kilometers-long natural balcony overlooking the terraced valleys and steep, vine-draped slopes of classic Priorat. La Vilella Baixa and Alta, El Lloar, El Molar, Gratallops... these are legendary names in the international wine world that bring a distinct sense of myth and identity to the route's ever-changing LANDSCAPE.

"ESPECTACLE" IN LA FIGUERA

Route and LANDSCAPES 4 • MONTSANT - RESERVA LLABERIA
The lands of the DO Montsant are so overflowing with historical and winemaking interest that offering this second MONTSANT route option feels almost mandatory.
In the southern area of the region, just 6 miles (10 km) as the crow flies from the Mediterranean, the Sierras de Llaberia, El Montalt, and Tivissa embrace a landscape that is slightly gentler —in terms of gradient— than that of neighboring Priorat. This is the terrain where this route unfolds.
Make no mistake, though: the route traces the slopes of the Serra de Llaberia Natural Reserve. While the vineyards here might not sit on "impossible slopes" like those of Priorat, reaching some of the most captivating mid-slope plots still demands real effort. Just as with the previous LANDSCAPES, an e-bike can be a very welcome option if your fitness level isn't at its peak.
Very often, Montsant winemakers are the exact same producers crafting wines in Priorat. The same expertise and winemaking heritage are poured into wines where the physical demands of field labor are somewhat less extreme. The result is that Montsant genuinely delivers, earning its place in the international wine scene thanks to an outstanding quality-to-price ratio. All that's left for us is to experience it firsthand.

Route and LANDSCAPES 5 • TERRA ALTA
In southern Catalunya, tucked away in the strip of land bounded by the Ebro River to the north and the coastal ranges and the Matarraña region to the south, lies the almost unexpected region of Terra Alta. It forms part of a broader territory known as Terres de l'Ebre, which gathers the southern Tarragona districts accompanying the Ebro through its final stretches down to the Mediterranean Sea.
We won't need to pedal far to feel the strong sense of identity this landscape exudes.
This distinct character—which translates seamlessly into its wines—is precisely what led to the establishment of the Terra Alta Designation of Origin across this modestly sized geographic area.
Perhaps the region's most defining feature is the one frequently highlighted in local wine tourism, captured in a phrase that has become its signature slogan: Terra Alta, the soul of Garnacha Blanca.
While that isn't the whole story—the region holds some of Catalunya's officially recognized Finca Qualificada single-vineyard estates, such as El Mas and La Serra, where red wines clearly thrive—there is no denying the deep-rooted tradition of crafting exceptional White Wines here. Unquestionably, this heritage will accompany us throughout our journey.

Route and LANDSCAPES 6 • COSTERS DEL SEGRE
Seven distinct sub-zones across the province of Lleida come together to form the Costers del Segre Designation of Origin. Some are set in the lowlands near the provincial capital, while others adapt to the rugged terrain of Lleida's vast Pre-Pyrenees.
Among these seven sub-zones, and without discounting the others, we have selected Pallars Jussà for our LANDSCAPE option.
Nestled at what could be called the "gateway to the Pyrenees," it conceals—rather than reveals—some of the highest-altitude terroirs in all our itineraries, guaranteeing a route packed with character and compelling riding.
La Conca de Tremp serves as the backdrop for this route. The Gurp and Santa Engracia mountain ranges, with peaks topping 1,400 meters, allow us to design a route that is as demanding and breathtaking as you desire. Across these mountain slopes, the high-altitude vineyards of Sant Miquel and Castell d'Encús complete an unspoiled landscape that remains largely undiscovered on the international wine tourism circuit.

FAQs
ARAGÓN & CATALUNYA
- What are the groups like? All of our proposals are for independent groups and on the dates the group proposes. That is, we don´t bring together different people or groups into a common group. That is to say: You set up the group.
- Is it possible to include non-cycling participants in the group? Yes, but with certain conditions. It is possible to include participants who will not be cycling the route, but we do not provide a parallel program of activities or a dedicated guide to accompany them. We also do not offer specific transportation for them.
In other words, they can be included, but they must be self-sufficient while the rest of the group is carrying out the cycling activity. - What sporting level are the proposals? The sporting activities in all our proposals are always adaptable to the group´s chosen fitness level.
What is not selectable is the type of terrain we cycle on, as the vineyards are located where they are; therefore, even if a route is not demanding in terms of distance, it may contain sections that, while not strictly technical, might require a certain level of bike handling skills. This factor is more pronounced in some LANDSCAPES than in others.
The wine-related "tension" of the route will be maintained regardless of the group´s fitness level. - What kind of bikes are used... and who provides them? Bikes can be regular or electric (at the user´s request), but they will always be MTBs and usually have full suspension. The reason for this is not difficulty but comfort, as many vineyards are located in areas with a lot of gravel and alluvial rocks, and even for a few moments, its worth having that comfort.
Bikes are included in the package rates; however, if someone prefers to bring their own, which is quite understandable, the bike rental price will be discounted from the final offer. - What is the best time to go? Traveling through Northern Spain is possible year-round, as long as there is no snow, which can occasionally occur in certain areas during winter.
Spring and autumn are usually the most pleasant seasons; in summer, it can be quite warm, and we recommend simple precautions: starting early and enjoying the shade or a pool during the hottest hours of the day.
Some routes are also cyclable in winter, although some hotels may be closed, making it a bit harder to organize all services. If you are interested in a winter trip, just let us know. - What is the difference between the Premium and Ultra-Premium options? The differences between the 2 options are that the ULTRA-PREMIUM option includes these additions:
- Accommodations are always in 4 or 5* hotels, boutique hotels, or establishments that for one reason or another we consider special.
- All dinners throughout the trip are in a "Gastronomic Experience" format.
- The wines included in the Pack are of a superior category (at least from the point of view of wine critics).
- Is it possible to combine "LANDSCAPES" from the 5 different areas currently available? The answer to this question is YES and NO.
It is possible only if the selected areas are adjacent and if the chosen LANDSCAPES are relatively close to those of the base area.
Rates vary depending on the area, so this type of request may result in adjustments to the final Pack price. - What approach is used to select the wines featured in the BIKE & WINE SPAIN proposals? There is no single, uniform criterion. It is no exaggeration to say that each chosen wine has been selected for different reasons.
There are several factors involved, and since we consider this an important matter, we have listed them below:- Quality in and of itself is not the sole reason. To understand why we say this, it is enough to note that a spectacular wine is of no use to us if its vineyard or terroir of origin is not a feasible place to be logically included in a cycling itinerary.
- "Vinos de Paraje" (Single-plot wines) always take precedence, specifically those whose vineyards are located in scenically powerful or interesting landscapes.
- A key factor is always for the wine—regardless of its price—to offer a distinctive character. This may stem from using a recovered or rare grape variety, originating from a historical plot, or having been a groundbreaking pioneer in its time, among other traits.
- Occasionally, and much to our regret, we cannot include certain wines because the wineries are not—as we say in Spain—"por la labor" (up for it); they do not facilitate passage through their land when it is necessary. It is their right, but we truly believe they simply do not fully understand the project and are being over-cautious.
- On other occasions, it is quite the opposite: the producers, winegrowers, or winemakers themselves are the ones who inform, collaborate, and push us toward a specific wine and location. It is hard to say no when you see people so involved in helping.
- In the case of some Ultra-Premium wines, the search for the terroir becomes almost "detective-like," so once achieved, we always try to include it in the Pack.
- Is it possible to request the inclusion of a wine that does not appear in the proposal? If for any reason you would like to include a wine you know that belongs to the wine regions we offer, just let us know.
It is by no means guaranteed that we will be able to include it, but we will certainly try; if we can find its terroir of origin, we will include it in the itinerary.
